Why Have I Done What I’ve Done?

Why Have I Done What I’ve Done?

I’ve asked myself that lately.

Why build again?
Why write?
Why keep photographing?
Why not just settle?

It’s not attention.
It’s not boredom.
It’s not reinvention.

I don’t switch off well.

Photography was where it started.

Standing on a street with a camera teaches you one thing quickly —
pay attention or miss it.

That lesson never leaves.

Over time it stopped being about the image.
It became about awareness.

What I notice.
What I rush.
What I ignore.
What I avoid.

Writing slows that down.
Conversation tests it.

When you look at everything I’ve built, it’s not separate projects.
It’s the same pursuit in different forms.

I don’t build because I need applause.

I build because if I stop creating, I drift.

And drifting doesn’t suit me.

Gen X was raised to get on with it.
Work. Provide. Be steady.

Fair enough.

But steady doesn’t mean stagnant.

The camera was my starting point.

Everything since has been about staying awake.

That’s why I’ve done what I’ve done.

Nothing dramatic.

Just deliberate.
